One way afterschool programs can take a realistic look at their programming and determine where they’re doing well and what they need to work on is through the Cycle of Continuous Improvement. The cycle starts with program assessment then walks through creating planning and implementing improvement strategies. This video highlights how two communities in California, Oakland and Black Oak Mine, have used the Youth Program Quality Assessment tool to improve the quality of their offerings.

This case study shows how leaders in Petaluma, Calif., did just that, working with the Forum for Youth Investment to use the Ready by 21 approach to build a community wide coalition and develop new strategies that had impact.

This is a story of a community bringing together a wide range of organizations to improve services and results for youth. Community leaders on the Georgetown Divide gathered a broad coalition to improve youth outcomes. The Ready by 21 set of strategies, tools and technical assistance guided leaders to act together and provided a framework for working more effectively to improve outcomes for all children and youth.
