Afterschool Program Assessment System (APAS)

July 23, 2012 - 8:30 am to July 24, 2012 - 4:30 pm
Event Host(s): National Institute of Out-of-School Time

This seminar was for afterschool directors, supervisors, curriculum and education coordinators, and 21st CCLC personnel interested in utilizing the Afterschool Program Assessment System (APAS). APAS is one of the only assessment systems available that helps afterschool programs link quality and youth outcomes together in a comprehensive, flexible, and integrated fashion.

Attendees of this two-day seminar learned to:

  • Understand the APAS program improvement approach
  • Develop confidence in using the three APAS measurement tools for school-age youth:
    • SAYO-Staff & Teacher Surveys - measure changes in intermediary youth outcomes linked with long term healthy development and educational success.
    • SAYO-Youth Survey - our newest survey provides a unique opportunity to hear directly from youth in key areas related to their future success. The SAYO-Y is for youth in grades 4-12.
    • APT-Observation Tool & APT-Quality Questionnaire - help programs understand and document the quality practices that are linked to SAYO outcomes
  • Outline their own plan for using the tools in a process of ongoing quality improvement within their program
