Summer youth programs are going to get their own process for quality assessment.

The David P. Weikart Center for Youth Program Quality has partnered with the National Summer Learning Association (NSLA) to develop a unique Program Quality Assessment for summer programs. The pilot combines elements of the Weikart Center's Youth Program Quality Assessment with NSLA's Comprehensive Assessment of Summer Programs to create a process that meets the needs of these programs by capturing specific aspects of summer program culture, and by adjusting the assessment and improvement process to fit into a tight summer timeline.

The pilot will be conducted this year in Baltimore, Md.; Grand Rapids, Mich.; and Oakland, Calif. The pilot is made possible by support from the William T. Grant Foundation, the Packard Foundation, and the Doug and Maria DeVos Foundation. There will be a workshop on the partnership and pilot process at National Conference on Summer Learning in November. For more information and to register, visit www.summerlearning.org/conference. The Weikart Center is a division of the Forum for Youth Investment.
