Child Advocate to Kick Off National Meeting

Ralph Smith, managing director of the Campaign for Grade Level Reading and a long-standing advocate for children, will kick off this year's Ready by 21 National Meeting. Ralph will reflect on why our success as a nation hinges on our ability to address chronic inequities that lead to some children starting behind and staying behind. See more about him here.

The third annual Ready by 21 National Meeting will bring together hundreds of leaders like you who are working to improve the odds for young people through collective impact initiatives, policy alignment and program quality improvement. Find out more about:

Feedback from last year's conference:
"This was an amazing collaborative learning experience with partners from around the country willing and able to discuss lessons learned and future strategies in open and honest ways."

New Flexibility to Use Fed Funds

Great news: After years of work by advocates for disconnected youth, Congress included Performance Partnership Pilots in the fiscal 2014 omnibus spending bill. As a result, up to 10 places can enter Performance Partnership agreements to use federal discretionary funds more efficiently and effectively to improve outcomes for disconnected youth.

Instead of working with a fragmented set of federal, state, and local policies, these agreements let state and community leaders blend money from various programs to meet the needs of disconnected youth. This eases the strain on communities while advancing the goals of federal programs. Get more information and see the official language authorizing Performance Partnership Pilots.
