Experts: We Need "Better" Learning Time, Not Just More

More "Better Learning" = More "Ready Youth"
As the concept of expanded learning gains traction across the country, education and out-of-school time leaders are tackling important questions raised by that movement. Join us at this year's Ready by 21® National Meeting for a provocative conversation about what it takes to offer not just "more" learning time, but "better learning" time.

Fred Frelow, head of the Ford Foundation's More and Better Learning Time Initiative, Jane Quinn, vice president of Children's Aid Society, and Hillary Salmons, executive director of Providence After School Alliance, trade insights on this issue in an hour-long plenary. Find out more about:

Program Quality

Shrinking the Opportunity GapEver wonder what it takes to narrow the opportunity gap for low-income students and children of color? The Road Map Project Awards Program recently recognized the efforts of 20 programs which do just that in the Seattle area.

One of the finalists was the Youth Program Quality Initiative, developed by the Forum's Weikart Center for Youth Program Quality. The initiative (led by School's Out Washington) has improved instructional quality, shifted organizational culture and changed how organizations train and support staff who work directly with youth. Find out more about the other finalists and awardees.
