Quality Improvement and Asset-Building Challenge

Quality Improvement and Asset-Building Challenge

The Quality Improvement and Asset-Building Challenge (2010-2011) helped communities get their out-of-school time services in line with the needs of the young people they serve.

This research-based technical assistance model guided leaders to systematically:

  • Assess the developmental assets in a population of children and youth, using the Search Institute’s Developmental Assets® measurement tools.
  • Improve the quality of out-of-school time settings for these children, using the Youth Program Quality Intervention developed by the David P. Weikart Center for Youth Program Quality.

Each community received training and technical assistance from the Weikart Center (a division of the Forum) to build the community- and site-level capacities necessary to implement the Q&A model in 10 pilot sites serving youth ages 10 and up. In addition, the local United Ways, school districts and public and private funders convened stakeholders to create a community-level plan to scale-up and sustain the efforts undertaken through the Challenge.
