In order for community partnerships to have a positive collective impact on young people’s lives, federal policies need to support comprehensive, place-based interagency efforts. The Forum for Youth Investment, in partnership with the National Collaboration for Youth, American Institutes for Research, the Campaign for Youth, the Children's Leadership Council and the Aspen Forum for Community Solutions, hosted a webinar to learn about the White House and the Obama Administration’s plans to support such comprehensive efforts for youth in general, and for disconnected youth in particular.

Anyone working to increase postsecondary success knows that aligning the work of various stakeholders and helping sectors work together is essential – and a new issue brief shows how leaders are making that happen on both the community and state levels.
This tool was created in order to help young people and adults develop a common language for talking about how to improve schools. The tool provides educators, young people, administrators, policy makers, parents, community members and other stake holders with a common lens for reflecting on their schools and for planning change. It can also be useful in assessing the range of reform models and change strategies underway in a district or school at any given time.

Healthy behavior, staying in school, problem-solving skills - these are among the outcomes we all want to see in our young people. It is always encouraging to be able to point to a new mentoring initiative, a great afterschool program or a really innovative school, but to achieve community- and state-wide impact, you need to do something bigger.
Balancing work and school can hinder a young person’s success in higher education. However, the opposite can also be true: Good jobs facilitate student persistence and completion. So what does it look like when working works for students? That’s what we need to understand in order to transform employment opportunities into drivers of student success.
Should young people be considered actors in school change, or simply the recipients of changed schools? Growing evidence and our own experience in the field suggest the former. Youth-led efforts to create change in schools, districts and education policy are on the rise. Youth Organizing for Educational Change features brief case studies of seven youth organizing efforts across the United States that we hope will inform, instruct and inspire.
